I want the landscape to participate in the meaning of this piece.  This is to be a desolate, forsaken, uncomfortable place.  It won't always be shades of blue so the glacier associations will fade.  Pity, it seems extra cold right now.  
The foreground comes from a reference photo I took of the Minnesota River valley near my home and the background is from the Badlands in South Dakota.  I took reference photos this summer on our family vacation knowing I needed to find some sources for Golgotha.
