This is the 2nd in a set of sacrament paintings for a private commission.  Here you see the early stages of the painting and the still life set up in my studio.  I intend these paintings to highlight the simple materials God chose to use in his sacraments.  Water, wine, bread...and we can be reminded of his love for us every time we wash, eat, and drink.  God knew that we would need to do these things often.

The great amount of open space at the top of these canvases sets a quiet, meditative tone.  As these are commissioned by a man wishing to be reminded of his connection with God and His kingdom of believers, and they are to hang in his apartment, they are private works of contemplation.  This intimate, daily contemplation is an ancient purpose of art that predates the modern concept of public museums and galleries.
